DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The Gnawt-a-Cone is a pinecone-shaped natural latex rubber dog toy from Ruffwear’s Pacific Gnaw-west collection — inspired by the Ponderosa pine trees of Central Oregon’s Bend, where Ruffwear is based. Its elongated cone silhouette and faceted scale-like surface produce an unpredictable, multi-directional bounce that dogs cannot anticipate, sustaining chase and fetch engagement far longer than symmetrical round toys. The faceted surface massages the gums during active chewing. An internal chamber holds large treats, biscuits, or peanut butter for treat-dispensing occupational play. Dishwasher-safe for effortless cleaning after loaded sessions. Part of the Pacific Gnaw-west collection alongside the Gnawt-a-Rock and Gnawt-a-Stick — three natural rubber toys, three Pacific Northwest shapes, one play philosophy: unpredictable, rewarding, and built to outlast every session.
MATERIALS & CONSTRUCTION
Material: 100% natural latex rubber — renewable, plant-sourced, non-toxic, and food-safe. Chew-resistant and flexible throughout sustained daily use.
Dimensions: 7.5 cm wide x 10 cm tall (approximately 3 in x 4 in). One universal size — suitable for most breeds with large enough mouth to engage the cone shape comfortably.
Internal Chamber: Holds large biscuits, training treats, or peanut butter. Wide enough for easy loading, narrow enough to require active manipulation for dispensing.
Cleaning: Dishwasher safe (top rack) or hand wash with mild detergent and air dry — the food-safe material requires no special cleaning process after treat loading.
Colours Available: Metolius Blue, Sockeye Red, Lichen Green, Blue Pool.
Made in Vietnam. Supervised play recommended.
KEY BENEFITS
- Pinecone Shape Creates Genuine Unpredictability — The elongated, asymmetric cone silhouette produces a multi-directional erratic bounce that dogs cannot predict, sustaining active fetch and chase engagement across repeated sessions in a way that spherical toys stop doing once the novelty fades.
- Faceted Scale Surface Massages Gums During Chewing — The raised, angular surface texture creates variable pressure points across the gum line — satisfying sensory chewing feedback that smooth rubber surfaces cannot replicate, and useful dental hygiene stimulation during habitual chewing sessions.
- Large Internal Chamber — Holds Treats, Biscuits, and Peanut Butter — converts any solo chew session into active treat-dispensing occupational play. Dishwasher safe for completely effortless cleanup after loaded use.
- Natural Latex Rubber — Renewable, Non-Toxic, Chew-Resistant — the same material rationale as the Gnawt-a-Rock: plant-sourced, food-safe, and structurally resilient against the mechanical stress of sustained daily chewing and outdoor fetch use.
USAGE GUIDE
Fetch Play: Throw on any hard surface — pavement, tile, or outdoor ground. The cone’s asymmetric shape deflects unpredictably on each bounce. For indoor play, throw against a wall or floor at varying angles to maximise directional unpredictability.
Treat Loading: Insert large biscuits through the base opening or spoon peanut butter into the internal chamber. The chamber’s dimensions suit large treats; smaller kibble can also be used but will dispense more quickly. For extended engagement, freeze a peanut butter-loaded cone for 30–60 minutes before giving.
Chew Use: Allow as a daily chew outlet under supervision. Inspect periodically for surface wear or tearing — remove and discard if any material becomes loose or detached.
Cleaning: Top rack dishwasher safe. Alternatively hand wash with mild soap, rinse the internal chamber thoroughly, and air dry completely before reloading.
Safety: Supervised play recommended. Remove and discard if any part becomes detached. Not suitable for dogs that destroy rubber toys within a single session — use the Gnawt-a-Rock’s heavier mass as an alternative for very aggressive chewers.
